University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, O-Week

Q : How do I pay for my fees and accommodation at Wits ?
A : By cheque or bank draft, but make sure that you make it out to Wits University. This will save you a lot of time and trouble since a cheque in your name will take 7-10 days to clear and in the mean time you can not register (more information on fees and payments: http://study.wits.ac.za/cao/feesfaq.html).

Q : Should I bring cash?
A : Always bring some cash (again cheques take time to clear). We suggest you bring enough to buy food etc. for a week. About $50.00

Q : Where will I stay?
A : You need to make arrangements prior to your arrival with the Office of Residence Life: http://www.wits.ac.za/reslife/student.htm

Q : What do I bring for registration?
A : First you should cheque your letter of acceptance. It should state exactly what you need. In general international students must bring: ID book, study permit, proof of medical insurance, proof of payment (either a bank statement or a statement from the Wits fees office), letter of acceptance from Wits.

Q : What about health insurance?
A : You need to take out a medical insurance before you can be registered at Wits University. Note that the insurance company must be South African and that it must include hospitalisation and day-to-day cover. You can get insured when you are in South Africa before registration and WISA can help you then and there with different options.
